Katie
“Emma is someone who leads with transparency and kindness, which I felt from the moment I joined Elsie. She is accessible for questions and open to feedback, works hard to make sure that the monthly and weekly meetings leave attendees fulfilled, and is continuously improving the platform with new additions what feels like every month.”

Leanne
“Elsie makes me feel supported. Every time I ask a question relating to my business, Elsie members come back with honest and thoughtful responses that help move my decision making forward. The community is specialised and run with heart and intention.”

Georgia
“One of the most valuable things I’ve done in the early stages of my freelance career has been to join a community of supportive and like-minded freelancers who work in women’s health & sexual wellness. It’s been lovely to check in nearly every day with such a fab group of people.”

Karen
“Being part of Elsie has opened my eyes to a world I wasn't aware of and I am working in the female health space. I love feeling connected to like-minded individuals who share the same struggles and to whom I can turn when I need help. There's a shared frame of reference and a sense of caring you won't get elsewhere.”

Caitlyn
“Elsie is different from other communities because it’s more authentic: people are comfortable sharing their challenges and hiccups without appearing ‘unprofessional’, and other members show up to offer help and support.”

Agustina
"I only knew ONE person working in the area of female health (from the translation industry). That definitely changed after I joined Elsie."
FAQs
Is Elsie just for women?
No. Elsie is open to anyone working in sexual and female health, as we believe these issues are everyone’s responsibility.
Is Elsie just for the UK?
No. Elsie is proudly global across 15+ countries. While our events are limited to the UK for now, we hope to expand in-person offerings in other locations soon.
What if I don’t have much experience yet?
We welcome anyone with a genuine interest in the sector into the community. To be listed on the public directory, you’ll need to show some kind of work, this could be an article, a research project, a campaign, or anything that shows you’re involved.
Is Elsie just for freelancers?
Elsie is freelancer-focused. That means our resources, guides and events are built for people navigating freelance life. But we know freelancing looks different for everyone. Some people freelance full time, some are in between contracts, and some are building a side hustle. If freelancing is part of your world, you belong here.
Should I wait until I’m looking for work to join?
No. Our job and gig board is just one part of Elsie. You can use the advice channel to get support with tricky client conversations, team up with someone to co-host a workshop, or come to a local meetup. Whether you're busy or in between things, there's always something to be part of.
What if other freelancers are going for the same gigs?
Elsie’s energy is hard to describe but easy to feel.
- We believe that investing in your network brings more work, not less.
- We openly share advice, contacts and opportunities.
- We don’t buy into the idea of scarcity.
Elsie is about backing each other. Not beating each other.
My notifications aren’t working.
It’s tempting to mute notifications — we get it.
But doing so means you'll miss out on the connections, conversations, and opportunities that make Elsie so valuable.
Not sure how to adjust your notifications? Here’s how:
1. Click your photo in the top right corner
2. Go to "Personal Settings"
3. Select "Notifications"
4. Tailor your notifications to what works best for you
What we suggest turning on:
✔️ Comments on your posts – Stay in the loop when people engage with what you share
✔️ Mentions – Never miss when someone tags you in a conversation.
✔️ Private chat messages – Keep up with direct connections.
✔️ Updates from the host (👋) – We do this sparingly, but when we do, it’s important.
We personally turn off email notifications and turn on mobile push notifications. This setup is perfect 🤌 in our humble opinion.

Why the name Elsie?
Elsie Inglis was a Scottish suffragette and pioneer in female healthcare. 🏴
Elsie established a maternity hospital staffed entirely by women in Edinburgh in 1894. At the outbreak of the First World War, she organised all-women ambulance units and in 1915, she went to Serbia where she set up three military hospitals.

In sum, she was determined to make it possible for women to have careers in medicine, and wanted to ensure women could access the medical care they needed.
Coincidentally, she worked about 5 minutes from my co-working space and is buried in the cemetery next to my flat. While i’m building a global community, I want to pay homage to the city where I fell in love with FemTech and started this business.
